Honestly, and this may sound like treason of the worst sort to some of you, but I like some rap a lot. My favorite rapper is white, and he's not one of those wiggers, like he doesn't try to be black or rap about how he grew up in "da hood". I enjoy listening to the ways in which words can be manipulated and put together. But not if it's something stupid like the crap that MTV plays all the time. That's not true lyricism, that's just a bunch of monkeys making noises. I will post an example of some of the rap that I listen to occasionally.
"We burn up the nicest, virgin sacrifices,
murder any righteous, servant of the light with
curses recited in verses that we write with
the very spear that pierced the side of Christ's ribs
We harvest the organs of martyrs we slaughter,
bargain with souls, on the darkest of waters,
travel the sea-floor, sea-shore to sea-shore,
feeding on sting-rays, speeding on sea-horse,
before, recorded, prehistoric man lived
we survived in the warm core of the planet
hornets, swarming, living with drones
we developed rhythms in the epicenter of the globe
wizards dressed in robes, testing tones
and ingesting the bones and the flesh of those
who would step with chrome, death was slow
we ditched the extra load on infested roads
cadavers, lined the path up to our hide-out
rappers died before they even got a rhyme out
find out - mercy's denied for our rivals
till the day we die, the Monsters are wild"
I dunno, but I find that rather impressive (remember this was by a white guy, not one of those mindless monkey chants). Call me a traitor if you will. I know where I stand.
