[Everything can get all fundied up! This is excerpted from advice given by one Christian interior decorator to another who worries that her occupation isn't Christian enough. Incidentally, as a Pagan interior decorator, I don't bring religious statues or themes of any kind, just blend in what the client already has.]
If you have been gifted by God to know how to enhance the décor of your home, or the homes of others, then it’s a wonderful gift to share. And, if individuals in the marketplace are going to be paid to help in these areas as designers, then as with most other professions, it’s great for that person to be a Christian. Just like we're all called to do as believers in any career - you can let the light of Jesus shine through you. Whether working with believers or with non-believers, you can be a blessing and allow God to give you opportunities to minister as you trust Him for wisdom and creative ideas.
Here are a few practical ways you can minister. Ask your clients if you can pray with them as you make important decisions, or at least let them know you're praying about it. Tie in themes that glorify and honor God. And remember, you will be able to keep things from coming into the home that non-Christian designers may have used - Buddha’s or other god-like statues, tasteless art, dark themes, etc.
As an interior designer, you are given a unique witnessing opportunity! You are able to go into homes where you can pray quietly or aloud in each room, and even share the gospel with your customers.
