<<Perhaps you would not be able to figure out that rape, murder, stealing, lying are wrong, without some authority telling you they are, but truly moral people do not need to be told they are wrong.>>

Then how did those people learn to do it? And how did the people who taught those who taught these moral people learn? Where did what we consider to be good behavior come from?

<<What you are implying is that rape, murder, stealing, and lying are only wrong because God said so. If He said they were OK, would they be?>>

I am not implying it, I am explicitly saying it. Look at the Islamic faith as an example for how morality is derived from religion. In this faith, the holy book states very clearly that it is perfectly OK to kill nonbelievers, that it is perfectly OK to lie to advance the cause of Islam and that it is perfectly OK to have sex with minor girls. Many followers of Islam who agree with these tenets do so because Allah told them it was OK.

Likewise, societies that base their morality, and ultimately their laws upon laws listed in the Bible do so because we believe that God told is this was the right thing to do.

When it is the latter of the two the unforgiveness often times will place a barrier that we can not penetrate. without spiritual help,. that is why God has placed in the body of Christ those who intercede for others on the behalf in prayer.

Unbelievable!! All legal citizens of this country need to respect the FACT that this country was FOUNDED on Christian beliefs. What is so hard about that? We respect other religions. Why can't people just respect this as a part of our country. The other religions or even the atheists do what they want to do. I just don't understand why everyone can't get along when it comes to religion.

So much ignorance of the First Amendment. "Congress shall not pass any laws respecting the establishment of religion, nor prohibit the free exercise thereof." Did congress pass a law? Did Congress prohibit freedom? People who say a person cannot express religion of any sort in government or public is ignorant of first amendment! By the way secular humanism/atheism are religious as well. Atheist believe there is no God. secular humanist believe there is no God, just evolution. Both are faith based.

America was founded on these principles. We all know the constitution doesn't say it or anything about God (it was understood so there was noneed) but I was explaining this to a student and he asked for a list of these principles. He asked what the principles were. I was able to give him a few like you shall not murder, you shall not steal, and having a good work ethic, but I couldn't come up with very many on the spot. And then he said that lots of people believe those things not just Jews and Christians.

So I need a good list to give him and he wants to know if they were listed or mentioned anywhere by the founding fathers. (Of course I told him to study the Bible if he wants all of them!)

The irony of liberals & atheists crying about separation? of Church and State is they don't seem to have a problem if the State interferes against one's religious expression. For instance, 2 Pace High School officials in Florida were recently charged for issuing a prayer at a school luncheon and may face up to 6 months in prison. Where's the ACLU?The liberals? The Atheists? In fact, the First Amendment is often abused by the latter to bring lawsuits, or threats of them, any where religion is seen

I didn't vote for bo in 2008 and even under duress I wouldn't vote for him in 2012. I pray for his soul, that God would totally and completely remove the usurper from ANY public office whatsoever, and that he is nothing more than a number at a maximum security prison by 2012. Maybe Guantanamo Bay? That's about the best I can do towards bo.

[My husband divorced me to remarry a woman half his age, he wanted more kids and he didn't want to adopt. So in all fairness I should be fine dating.......]

I'm sorry Anna, but your and my ideas of fairness have nothing to do with it. Our society's ideas about fairness have nothing to do with it. Our churches' ideas aboout fairness have nothing to do with it. But God's words have everything to do with it.

Rom 7:1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
Rom 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
Rom 7:3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

1Co 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
1Co 7:40 But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

These are explicit factual statements. In all of the bible's teaching statements there is no contradiction to this. The KJV and Rotherham mistranslate a verse in Deut. 24 that has confused many, but the "allowance" there for a divorced woman to remarry while her husband yet lives does not exist in any other translations I am aware of, nor, more importantly, in the hebrew itself. Even in kjv english, the whole argument there has nothing to do with an allowance for a woman's remarriage, but rather everything to do with her being defiled by remarriage.
Jesus said a man who divorced his wife except for the grounds of fornication, CAUSED her to commit adultery. Now surely such a man is more guilty than the divorced wife, since he has CAUSED her to sin. But that does not mean that she has not sinned, does it? Or that the sin is not terrible?

I hope you will look up every verse in the bible regarding marriage and divorce before you answer this man's proposal. Every verse.

Frankly, I think you are displaying a rather common christian prolife fallacy: namely that the women who have abortions are somehow not as disgustingly evil as the terrible, mainly male, butchers who wallow in blood. I think you are showing the common effects of many HUNDREDS of years of feminist dogma, going back to the early church's elevation of Mary, and back further still to the pagan whitewash of Eve.

Supposedly women are not as evil as men. Yep. Eve was completely taken in by the serpent, and hence not as culpable as Adam, who simply rebelled in order to please his rib. I actually agree in a way. Adam WAS more culpable. If he had not eaten, death would not have entered into the world. We don't know what would have happened if only Eve had eaten. But we DO know that it is ADAM'S eating that condemned the world to vanity. To whom much is given, much is required. And men were first in creation, and men have been given more. Hence we are more culpable.

But don't forget that Eve was deceived, Eve ate, Eve GAVE TO HER HUSBAND TO EAT.

But today it is quite apparent that not only unbelievers, but also believers, in general think women are morally/spiritually superior. Three fifths of church goers are women after all. And what do most women, including christian women, do with their supposed superiority? They either murder, or they at least, in part, justify murder, and a plenitude of other abominations, as long as they are FEMININELY related to, abominations.

I believe you are a nurse? Please cite something in medical research that actually supports the idea that terminating a pregnancy results in a better chance of survival for a woman in any circumstance, than carrying the baby to term. As far as I know, only ectopic pregnancy fits this presumption, and there has already been at least one ectopic pregnancy that continued to term WITHOUT killing the mom (I believe in australia, last year). Hence the presumption is suspect. But even if the presumption in the sole case of ectopic pregnancy is indicative of REAL risk to both mom and baby(it probably is), there could not be any excuse for removing the baby from the mon without attempting to SAVE the baby, as well as the mom.

There have been several trauma victim moms who have been maintained on life support to save the baby, and if memory serves me right, at least one of those moms "came back".

But at any rate, my point is: I don't believe ANY RESEARCH has established the scenario you present for your hypothetical. Prove me wrong if you can.

<<On Dinesh D'Souza's article "Where is Atheism When Bad Things Happen?">>

Let me first say that I'm a conservative(but not a Bush supporter) and a Christian.I just am wondering why the atheists care at all about what happened at VA. Tech?Let me preface by saying that I obviously realize that you do care, sincerely. But my question is how you can care if you believe there is no God?Why is there any reason to care about anyone but yourself(and even you is just molecules in motion, with nothing else but chance guiding what you do...which is,by the way, absurd in my opinion)? Why is there any reason for you to feel compasion on those beings that happen to be a part of your same species?Where does your moral obligation to feel anything for anyone come from?Where does love come from?

As already stated,I realize that of course you care about what happened to those people,of course you feel anger towards the madman who did it.My question is what, within your worldview, gives you any reason to "feel" anything?I'm sure there will be many attacks against my faith...but first try and answer this..then I'll answer yours.

What in the flying f*ck is Obamonkey doing wasting his time paying regard to these fudge-packin’ homos?! Especially when the US—due to his mismanagement of an ideological nature that ignores all reality no matter how indisputable—deserves his attention on much more pressing issues like the economy that he’s worsening, the Afghanistan war that he’s losing, and the Iran/Nkorea threats that his appeasement is only emboldening! As for these homosexual stains on nature that even God must surely hate, they are truly undeserving of life and should be summarily dealt with in absolute terms. I say this as a traditional, bluedog Democrat because when I go to Church on Sundays, the gay agenda really ticks me off. Gays should all be rounded up under a special law passed by Congress, and they should all be put in dresses and have their hair braided. Then, they should all be locked up in maximum security prisons across the US and be made to die in prison!

You know what's so funny about Atheism? If the Christians are right(which we are) then all the atheists get a one-way ticket to hell, but if by some impossibility the atheists are right absolutely nothing happens to the christians or any other religion because that would mean there would be no higher being to punish us! So its a win-win for religion while atheists are playing a fifty-fifty. Good luck burning for eternity.

Actually, I know in my heart and soul God was in the works on 9/11. If you start reading the stories of the people who were supposed to be at the World Trade Center at the time of the attacks, you will find an odd phenomena. Hundreds of people were late, got held up in traffic, took the wrong train, etc. that prevented them from being to work on time.

I do not believe for a minute that God would pour out his wrath on this country. Remember, he was willing to spare Sodomm and Gomorah if he could find but ten innocents. And also, if he was going to do that, then why send Jesus? He gave us the free will to make the choice. Some people will abuse it. But I don't think he's going to punish the innocent with the gulity.

Also, I'm sure there were many people who came to faith that day either before their deaths or people who were affected by the attacks indirectly. I have no doubt that God heard EVERY SINGLE prayer that day, from the WTC, from flight 93, and from me and my Mother in Michigan, praying in front of the TV and crying.

It was very hard for me for years to see the pictures of the people who were falling from the WTC. One in particular haunted me up until this year. Then I realized that this poor man's body was hurtling towards the ground, but his soul was safe in God's arms. His arms were full that day, but His love saved the most important part of these people - their souls.

I hope that makes sense. I've read alot about 9/11, because it was really upsetting for me and if something scares me then I start to study it until I understand it and then I'm not afraid anymore.

[Jose asserts that hip hop promotes violence; another user points out that even the Bible promotes violence.]

I'd expect this kind of BS at wikipedia, but not here. If you want to deliberately skewer and censor the facts to make it seem like rap is wholesome Christian music, you are free to do so, but I will have no part of it. The fact that you are so eager to defend perverted artforms such as Heavy Metal and Rap makes me think you yourself indulge in the sinful past-time. You cannot be a man of god and listen to these abominations. Light and darkness simply do not mix. And to compare the violence in hip hop to the Bible is simply disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself. Violence in the Bible is justified while in Hip Hop it is always committed over trivial things (such as "hos" and "bitches") Maybe you are one of these "hos" or "bitches" that all the rappers are killing each other over. Such a comparison to the bible should really make you question how genuine your faith in God truly is and you should possibly inquire about a move to wikipedia where your lack of faith will be greeted with open arms and legs. I will not be contributing here anymore as long as you censor legitimate facts and slander the Bible.

What I was trying to get at was how sexual content in anything creates lust. Lust is not a good thing. Sex is a pleasure, it's something that should mean something and be cherished. My opinions, I understand, but why is it becoming the norm that to be a real man you must sleep with three different women every night? Why is it okay to see as many naked women as possible? Why is okay for all of these thing? And people wonder why there's over a 50% divorce rate in the United States? Everyone is losing values and what it's like to be a morally good person. Everyone for themselves and not caring how their actions affect the people around them.

Also, I'm getting really tired of hearing about the violence thing. I opened a discuss about the sexual content and almost everyone has avoided it like the plague and instead brought up violence. These things really just aren't on the same level.

Thanks for sharing.

Last year I went to the funeral of a 16 year old neighbor girl who committed suicide and whose family were unbelievers. The funeral included an announcement that a particular distant star had been officially named in the girl's honor. There was no mention of God. It was so depressing. I bawled through the entire service.

Faithwon, your story gives real hope to Christians who grieve over seeing others die apparently without Christ.

The remaining unbelieving family members wouldn't take comfort in that though. But they still have time...
