Quote# 107175

“It has been encouraging how well the media and the bulk of the fans have embraced [the ending],” Konietzko wrote. “We did it for all our queer friends, family, and colleagues.” Added DeMartino, “I’ve already read some heartwarming and incredible posts about how this moment means so much for the LGBT community.”

So it would appear all fans have no choice but to consider as canon the relationship most fans call “Korrasami.” That also applies to Christian fans of Korra who should want to respect its creators’ intentions. This is good and fair hermeneutics, i.e., respecting a story-maker’s intentions the same way we should respect the intentions of the Bible’s Author. However, it is not homophobic — as Konietzko seems to imply — to discuss how the Korrasami finale makes no sense in the context of the Avatar story-world, how it hijacks Korra’s story in service of social causes to the detriment of its own creative storytelling, or how these attempts make it difficult to simply enjoy Korra as art.
Korrasami Is a Leaky Ship

Elsewhere I’ve referred to “The Harkness Law” or “The Gobber Principle”; that is, most stories’ emotional cores are based on “traditional” relationships, with other relationships relegated to side references, comic relief, or obvious political/social agenda add-ons. However, Korra didn’t contain even the slightest hint that its story-world included “non-traditional” relationships — even as comic relief or as side references.

All Avatar stories have, as their emotional core, relationships between friends, siblings, parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren, boyfriends and girlfriends, and husbands and wives. Not one same-sex couple was in sight, meaning the Korrasami addition makes no sense.

Imagine if, at the end of the Star Wars trilogy, the camera pulled back to show the story was all a simulation or just Anakin’s bad dream. Or imagine that Breaking Bad‘s finale took a turn and — hey presto! — there’s suddenly a zombie epidemic! Korra may as well have added King Arthur, dinosaurs, or an alien invasion at the last second.

Commentator “SirMontague” at IGN.com crafted a lengthy critique of the lazy, so-subtle-it-arguably-doesn’t-even-exist story twist. “Everything Korra and Asami did together was normal behavior for two close friends excluding the final 15 seconds of the finale,” he wrote. “It just comes across as a sudden decision that isn’t really developed at all through the series.”
Korrasami Jukes the Story for a Social Cause
But the worst result of the Korrasami twist is that suddenly, most fans are forced to ignore Korra’s story and instead, talk about a social cause — regardless of one’s view on it.

“Korrasami ruined Korra and not in the way most would think,” fan Andrew Kocurek wrote on the show’s Facebook page. “That’s all fans ever talk about now when referring to Korra. All the fan pages are filled with this. Nothing about ANYTHING else related to the story. No Varrick and Zhu Li, no Mako or Bolin, it’s all Korra and Asami. It’s so freaking annoying.”

This is simply a version of the “Jesus Juke,” which ignores the obvious original intent of an anecdote, joke, or work of art, and instead, turns it into an opportunity to teach a high-falutin’ Moral Lesson. Some Christian filmmakers constantly juke their own work. They ask people not to enjoy the film for its potentially God-exalting creative storytelling, but rather, to support the film to promote a special cause. Such stories are usually boring and are hardly enjoyable upon repeat viewings. Indeed, creators who market their cause over their story are often covering for audience disinterest or creative deficiency.

But Korra already had high audience interest and amazing creativity. And even if the show’s creators had chosen to add in a human exploration of sexual or social causes, they could have worked it in earlier in the story — right alongside other additions to the Avatar world such as automobiles and radio.

Instead they chose a last-second absurd “cause juke.” And at first that makes me not want to enjoy Korra again. You can enjoy a great story over and over but a cause-juked story is barely interesting the first time. All of the Korrasami talk made me feel, not like a kid on Saturday morning enjoying the best of animated storytelling, but rather, like a kid in an uptight Sunday school class. This notion makes Korra feel, at best, like an evangelical film in which any story is used as a means to the real end of promoting a social cause. And the creators, along with fans, seem to proclaim in sing-song voices, “All right, children, now that we’ve had our fun, it’s time for us all to Learn a Valuable Moral Lesson.”

But perhaps my initial reaction won’t last. Gloating Korrasami shippers quoted good-naturedly (or as a plain taunt) the phrase “Korrasami is canon; you gotta deal with it!” So I have dealt with it, by concluding that the creators’ attempted social cause juke is mechanical, silly, and unnecessary. That’s why someday I will re-view Korra and enjoy it solely as great storytelling. After all, great stories will outlast even their own creators’ attempt to bend them to serve alternative goals.

“If I had undeniable evidence for God, I wouldn't be an atheist, now would I?” Francesco Cimmarrusti

This gentleman has highlighted the issue with atheism. They have undeniable evidence, and yet they still profess the foolishness of atheism. There’s a reason for that. First, here’s the undeniable evidence:

1. Creation: The incredible order of Nature, from the atom to the universe. It is scientifically impossible for Nature to have made itself, and it is also scientifically impossible for it to be eternal. There had to be an uncreated First Cause.
2. Conscience: The existence of the God-given, society-shaped conscience. The conscience (“with” “knowledge”) intuitively tells us that we are moral beings, separate from the animals, and therefore responsible to God.
3. Commandments: Our conscience (the “work of the Law” written on our hearts) independent of our will tells us that we have violated the Ten Commandments—showing us that we are sinners, heading for Hell.
4. Conversion: In a moment of time any “atheist” can come to know the God he only knows about, by obeying the gospel. But they refuse to because they love their sin.

Shannon, Thanks for your comment. The point of the post is that there would be no holiday season apart from the celebration of Christmas. Without a saving relationship with Jesus Christ there is no reason for joy or happiness in this world. To wish happiness for something that does not exist is not really a blessing. You are right that it is important to be thoughtful and kind in our expressions.

Quote# 107168

Happy Holidays is the sensitive, politically correct, caring greeting to offer from Thanksgiving Day until Happy Holiday Day. After Happy Holliday Day then it is fine form to actually say Happy New Year. No one seems to be offended at the prospect of celebrating parties, drunkenness and the fleeting hope that next year will be better than this year.

Of course saying Happy Thanksgiving is becoming problematic because someone might think you are thankful to the God of the Bible. Thus, to avoid to avoid confusion, giving offense and a possible lawsuit it is just easier to say Happy Holidays.

Therefore, to offer a truly happy, non-offensive greeting all you have to do is to avoid the mention of anything that might possibly be a reference to Jesus Christ.

But, then it is fair to ask why should anyone be happy if God and his Son are not the reason for being happy. During the holidays people eat too much, spend money on friends and relatives they don’t even like, go into debt for things that will end up in the landfill, have hangovers and bad memories. What is happy about that?

You see the attempt to disconnect God from the holiday season actually leads to despair. In this politically correct world, the only logical response to someone wishing you Happy Holidays is why?

Of course you do have the reason to celebrate and know true happiness. You have the sure promise that your sins are forgiven. You know that despite all of the problems in life, that your God works everything for your good and his glory. Your gifts are expressions of love and gratitude, not attempts to buy affection. You know that happiness is more than what happens to us.

Look for every opportunity this Christmas season to tell others why your Christmas is a Merry Christmas. There really is a reason to be happy!

The idea that even one’s most intimate, hidden and personal thoughts will be held accountable to the God of the Bible is abhorrent to our culture. Even Christians have become embarrassed to state such an idea openly.

The modern attempt is to put God and his Bible in an intellectual box and then label that box bigotry and intolerance. Surely we can do what we want with our bodies, our unborn children and our thoughts.

The spirit of the people of Babel lives on with great passion!

Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.” Genesis 11:4

Man’s spirit has not changed much over time.

Now our culture has once again become fascinated with itself. The trauma and tragedy of the two great wars of the 20th century has faded into a dull memory. Culturally, politically we think that we know what is best for our lives without regard for God. We have become like Israel in the time of the Judges. We do what is right in our own eyes: to each his own.

May God renew our passion for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ! This is only hope for your children.

The “Living Constitution” is bad but is only made possible by Christians who believe in a “Living Bible”.

The Constitution is a man made instrument that is subject to the whims of man. It was designed to “Form a more perfect Union” and to keep it’s citizens obedient to that union through deception, NOT to guarantee human rights and freedom as many believe.

Scripture has also erroneously been subjected to the whims of mans “interpretation” which is why Christianity doesn’t resembles Scriptural teaching.

Thankfully Yahweh will soon put an end to mans faulty documents of repression, restore His truth, His Kingdom and relieve us of corrupt leaders, deviants and false “Christian” teachers, and of course false Jews.

Our so called “Constitutional rights” and our natural right to control “OURSELVES” were abolished when we were forced by mandate to buy into an ungodly insurance and medical industry.

Scripture teaches us to have Faith in Yahweh and Yahshua Messiah and repent of sin. But the world we live in teaches us to continue in sin and have faith in the medical establishment for salvation.

Can anyone say “The mark of the Beast?”

The devil wants to rule the earth and offer a perversion of everything that God creates.

That’s why the Jews are after Russia. Because it’s the last great stand of Christianity against a pagan world full of demoniacs!

These infesters are determined to cram sexual perversion down the throats of the Christian population of Russia and the U.S. with pedophilia, bestiality and necrophilia soon to follow homosexuality as the “new normal”.

The “do what thou wilt” Luciferian philosophy of the Jewish Kaballah is in total defiance of the Hebrew 10 Commandments which clearly states that “adultery” or any perversion of the sacred pact between a man and a woman should not be tolerated.

“Thou shall not commit adultery” means that homosexuality should not be promoted as healthy and normal.

It might appear that the issue is states rights but in fact the real issue is respecting Gods laws and judgments and doing them on earth as it was decreed in heaven.

This is the duty of the state in exchange for legitimacy and the real right to govern.

The question of what to do with homosexuals is dealt with in Leviticus 20:13.

Applying that law and judgment is not Judaizing, it is respecting and enforcing God’s law and God is not a Jew.

Failure to obey God’s laws and judgments on the part of the state, and that means any government on earth puts such a state in the position of being an accessory to a crime and must suffer the penalty of that crime.

Under that legal principle all governments that legalize, protect, promote or fail to punish crimes defined by God’s laws are guilty of being an accessory to those crimes and must suffer the penalty defined by God’s judgments.

This is what that statement “Do not judge lest you be judged” is all about. Making law and punishment independent of God’s laws and judgments. It is not a prohibition on carrying out sentencing based on God’s laws and judgments at all.

It is about prohibiting government from playing God and overthrowing God’s laws and judgments and making the law of god of no effect by the traditions of men and women.

Legislation beyond the limits or in defiance of divine law is against the First Commandment. For offending persons and nations there are consequences for this and they are not going to be a lot of fun either.

Can you say national punishment by the foreign sword or by other means?

Ask yourself the question. Who is offended by your offenses and is being strengthened economically and militarily? That is your executioner.

Street Evangelism Report - Day 1, Times Square, 3/12/05

No sooner did I arrive at the median strip at 45th and Broadway in Times Square, holding high the Holy Cross of Christ, than a young man in his 20s runs up to me thanking me for my “awesome” Videos.

There must have been some kind of “jewelry” event in Times Sq since a lot of “diamond district” Hasidic Jews were out in full force.

As soon as most of them saw me out of the corner of their eyes they changed direction rather than be confronted with the Cross of Christ.

Two of them did move toward me. I made the sign of the Cross over them and after cringing they started “running for their lives.”

Ha, ha ha! “Gotcha!” I yelled out.

Then a plain dressed Jew purposely walked toward me and said, “I’m Jewish,” in a proud self-satisfied voice.

“You stupid ass,” I replied, “the Messiah already came, the Lord Jesus Christ, and you missed Him.”

All in all it, it was a great outing!

The one word that describes the goal of CERN is manifestation. The objective at hand according to the scientists is that they are attempting to find the one particle that holds matter together. That particle has the ability to hold spirit and physical, that particle is what they call the 'God' particle. This particle does exist, it is part of the keys that Jesus Christ mentioned in the book of Revelations. CERN intends to 're-create' the big bang and it will create a bang but not the one they think will happen. This big bang will give mankind the ability manifest spirits into the physical. CERN will give mankind the ability to literally bring hell to earth, however in their mindset this is not bringing hell this is bringing “heaven” or the golden dawn. Which they themselves have stated. This golden dawn is where science meets spirituality, this golden dawn is the new age deception. According to a top physicist/theorist at CERN: 'why are we doing it? One answer is what we tell people and the other answer is the truth.' In my personal opinion, the finding of the 'God particle' has already taken place, it was found on July 4th 2012. The actual experiment that is going to be taking place on March 23rd 2015 will be the attempt to use it. Which means that they will be trying to take spirit and matter, and collide them. In other words, open a dimension and bring a spirit, then smash it together with a physical form and create a being.

Fighting against these [BDS] movements is not really the answer. Why? Because its not them fighting us, but a message from God saying, "WHY DON'T YOU KEEP THE TORAH???" Antisemitism will not end until every Jew is keeping the Torah. We just passed the holiday of Purim. The Gemara tells us that the Jews of that time deserved to be destroyed because they were no longer loyal to God. That same decree is on its way once more, as Iran gets closer to building an atomic bomb, with no one really prepared to stop them. Now, as then, we have only one answer to the world's desire to destroy us, and that is for every single Jew on the face of this earth to return to God and keep His Word - the Torah. Yes, its a harsh message, but our history has shown that it is the truth. If we want to ever see the end of those antisemitic movements, its not enough to stand and scream "We support Israel," and smile nicely for the cameras. We must get together and stand and scream, "We support and keep the Torah, the Holy Word of God!"

richardbrake: Do you want me to link to all the Christian funded research which shows the opposite. I can if you like. But neither that nor the present sociology will prove anything. Why? because it is too early to assess the psychological harm to the children involved. It is too early even to determine the relevant parameters.

None of your "evidence" is evidence of anything other than that the left will lie for its own purposes. It has always done this. It always will.

Steed: "Do you want me to link to all the Christian funded research which shows the opposite"

Please do. If it's peer reviewed and published in a reputable journal I'm happy to critique any evidence you care to supply.

However anything less than peer reviewed & published is more opinion than evidence. Is that bar too high for you?

richardbrake: Peer review means nothing. I explained lower down the thread that for almost thirty years the left denied the existence of the human races. It is still the official code in some fields of biology, notwithstanding the genetic evidence we now have and the existence of race-specific medicines developed through population genetics.

The left lies. It has always lied. It is lying now. Your "evidence" is the lies of sociologists.

One thing that is becoming evident is that regardless of culture, women cannot be trusted to use contraception in a socially responsible manner. If it is left up to them, they will kill their societies rather than give up the pleasures of alpha-chasing. This indicates that it will not be left up to them very much longer, as societies that permit women to control their birth rates will prove to be unfit, decline demographically, and eventually expire, while those that control women will prove their fitness, remain stable or continue to grow, and expand to replace the dying societies.

Iran's leaders understand that the future belongs to those who show up for it. It is a pity that so many political and opinion leaders in the West do not. That being said, historically attempts to legislate demographic growth have not been very successful, dating back to 9 AD and the Lex Papia Poppaea in Imperial Rome.

Fox News host Andrea Tantaros and Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) asserted on Monday that liberals were using snow days as a plot to remove religious holidays from schools.

Over the weekend, Boston’s Fox affiliate reported that the town of Easton, which is near Boston, was forced to push the end of the school year to June 29 due to an unusual amount of snow this winter. As contingency plan for next year, the school committee decided to eliminate two Jewish holidays and one Christian holiday instead of extending the school year.

On Monday’s edition of Outnumbered, Fox News host Jedediah Bila argued that schools should start earlier to “avoid angering this religious group or that religious group, and let everyone have their religious holiday.”

But Duffy said that there was something more sinister going on.

“That makes too much sense,” the Wisconsin Republican quipped. “Don’t let any good crisis go to waste, and if you want to take religion out of the public square, look at Boston and look at all the snow and say, ‘What a great reason now, we can take these religious holidays out of our school system.’”

“It’s using the crisis to the liberal benefit,” he added.

Tantaros agreed: “I think the congressman hit the nail on the head. This is what happens when liberal academic Boston meets ethnic Boston.”

“Take away from president’s day or go a little earlier in the summer or even a Saturday,” she advised. “There’s other options but they don’t want those options. They would rather take away the religious holidays.”

What Sullivan doesn’t have a right to do, however, is willfully misrepresent, which is exactly what he is doing. Sullivan’s glowing language about the transformative power of ideas to win democracy is not in any way the journey that same-sex marriage has taken. The republican process–government by the people and for the people–was utterly subverted in gay marriage’s journey to legalization. This was not the victory of the people, it was the victory of the elites, the fruit of a generation’s worth of ideological monopology over education and mass media. Sullivan’s notion that same-sex marriage has won the minds and hearts of Americans may be true one day; it might be more true now than I believe. But it is absolutely not the reason that the Supreme Court rejected appeals from voter-elected legislatures.

The most important word in same-sex marriage’s legal narrative has not been “voter” or “public,” but “judge.” The transformation of the judiciary into a moral arbiter of the people started a long time ago, and gay marriage advocates were certainly not the first to benefit from it. I could write thousands of words about why such an alter-ego of district, circuit and Supreme Courts is politically disastrous, but that’s not my point. My point is that even if you applaud the imposition of moral values onto voters in places like South Dakota, Indiana, and Kentucky, you cannot then double back and call such legal triumphs “democracy.” Doing so is not an issue of worldview, it’s an issue of base dishonesty. There is nothing democratic about a piece of civic law that is passesd overwhelmingly by a state’s electorate only to be weighed in the balance and found wanting by an utterly remote, utterly unaccountable philosopher-king.

Can Cruz “make DC listen”? It will be particularly hard since Common Core is not, in fact, a federal law.

The Common Core State Standards Initiative, known as Common Core, was developed by the states — with input from teachers, education experts and business leaders — and has been voluntarily adopted by 43 states and the District Of Columbia. I have thought this before too. Evolutionists act as if that's what has been believe since the beginning of time (millions of years ago? thousands?) I really haven't researched this topic enough to know the history of it. Is there anyone or group of people that believed in evolution before Darwin? There are creation stories from many cultures out there. Darwin is a newer theory compared to the history past down. I think many assume that we are more intelligent now because of our technological advances and this is the newest theory so... it must be right? Also, I would like someone to explain how you can evolve male and female of the same species. They need each other to procreate, but yet they are so different. How could they evolve at the same rate to be able to do that? "I'll make a cell that needs one of your cells to jump over, uh, make that swim, and join my cell." I'd need way more faith in that theory than I do in Creationism. Evolution, to me, is the world's excuse for trying to avoid the truth.

Quote# 107139

What you believe about the Earth's past doesn’t just influence how you view it—your belief also determines how you view the future! Because of their beliefs about the past, many evolutionists are concerned that somehow mankind will be catastrophically wiped out and life as we know it will end on Earth. One of the most popular versions of this apocalyptic tale is that a massive asteroid, or several asteroids, will strike Earth and obliterate life. The Discovery Channel even recently made a video simulating what it would look like if a 500-kilometer (310-mile) asteroid smashed into the Pacific Ocean. According to their simulation, such an impact would destroy Earth and vaporize life.

Why is it that evolutionists are so concerned that humanity will someday be catastrophically destroyed? Well, according to man’s ideas about the past, life arose naturalistically and the universe is governed completely by the merciless laws of physics. According to their worldview, evolutionists contend there isn’t anyone upholding or sustaining the universe. We are simply at the mercy of naturalistic processes. Also, according to one evolutionary idea about the supposed dinosaur extinction event, a massive asteroid impact wiped out the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago. If such an event happened once before, what’s to stop it from happening again and wiping out humanity this time?

Those who start with the Bible, however, get a completely different picture of Earth’s future because we start with a different picture of Earth’s past. According to God’s Word, the universe is not here as the result of naturalistic processes. God created the universe and has imposed order on it. The universe is not strictly governed by unfeeling natural laws. God upholds and sustains the universe that He has made (Hebrews 1:3). And we don’t need to worry that an asteroid will obliterate life. The Bible has already told us how things will end—with judgment from God when Jesus Christ returns to Earth (2 Peter 3:10; Revelation 20:11–15). Those of us who have trusted in Christ as Savior have no fear of this coming judgment because our penalty for sin has already been paid by Jesus. But instead of fearing some hypothetical asteroid apocalypse, those who refuse to acknowledge Christ as Lord should fear this coming judgment, and it should bring them to repent and put their faith in Christ.

What starting point you begin with makes a big difference in how you view the past, present, and future. As Christians, we have no reason to fear man’s prediction about the future because we can know the God who sees the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:9–10), and He has already told us how it will end—and He is in total charge of it all. We need to be bold in telling others about the history—and the future—that God has revealed to us in His Word and in encouraging them to put their faith and trust in Christ.
